I am getting tired of hearing about it, especially when it involves other artists I consider friends. I've had it happen to myself a few times, but I got over it because the person wasn't selling my art or claiming it as their own, but still taking it and reposting it without my permission is still wrong.
But worse has happened to other artists I know, some have even discovered their works up for sale on ebay

others just use them for myspace/blog backgrounds, but it seems the most targeted pieces are fanart. These thieves could care less about your original creations, it's the fanart that they like to steal.
and why is this? Because most cases involving art theft are fanart based.
so is that the only way to prevent this theft? Stop drawing fanart of the characters you love? If you ask me I do think that is one solution, especially if you want to decrease your chances of ever being ripped. Because the only art I've had stolen was fanart, and then I started drawing less and less fanart and focused more on original characters and designs, and havent been ripped since. But I can't say the same applies to all artists, just us mediocre artists. the highly skilled ones still have a chance of being ripped, fanart or not, but thats because they are popular and that kind of thing happens all the time.
But I really hate the idea of never wanting to draw fanart again just because of these rude selfish people.
They don't realize we spend a lot of time on our works, and we dont make them for their personal use, we make them because we enjoy it. But it seems its just too much trouble to ask the artist if they can use their works, and too much trouble to give them credit as well.
Sorry for the rant, but lately there's been an increase in art theft and it's been getting on my nerves, because I really can't stand people like that. But of course this is just a rant, its not like I can put a stop to it, but I can warn others.
If you ever want to find out if you're being ripped, just do a google search on your deviant username, same with photobucket. Usually you can find out for sure, because these thieves arent smart enough to realize the artists name is still attached when they save it.
but hopefully you dont find your stuff on another website, or in someones photobucket collection of stolen works.
